The US introduced sanctions Friday on Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Safety and its minister Esmail Khatib, after Tehran was recognized as being behind an unprecedented cyberattack in opposition to NATO ally Albania.
Iran allegedly carried out the assault on July 15, in search of to paralyze public providers and entry information and communications in authorities programs, based on the Albanian authorities.
The US stated that the intelligence ministry was behind the assault, which Tirana stated principally failed and prompted no lasting harm.
"Iran's cyber attack against Albania disregards norms of responsible peacetime state behavior in cyberspace, which includes a norm on refraining from damaging critical infrastructure that provides services to the public," stated Treasury Underneath Secretary Brian Nelson.
