Straughn sweeps Samson, travels to Pleasant Home

It has been a busy week away from home, but the trip to Samson proved to be worthwhile as Straughn swept their Tiger counterparts Thursday night.

The Straughn girls (1-7) won their first game of the young season and edged Samson by a 30-28 final score.

Straughn (2-1) showed poise on offense and defense for a 64-29 win in the boys’ game.

“These Tigers are hungry and have pushed themselves on every possession in every game that we have played. I expect Pleasant Home to be a very similar team to us. They have a team that is very talented this year. I believe it will come down to who will execute their jobs better and knock down free throws. We are going to focus on what will make us better in January and on. I believe these Tigers have the right mindset to do that, and PHS is another test on seeing what we are doing right and what we need to critique,” said Head Coach Trevor Driver.

Both teams close out the long week with a visit to Pleasant Home on Friday, Dec. 3 starting at 5:30 p.m. The PHS girls hold a 4-0 record so far after a 40-17 win against Zion Chapel Monday, Nov. 29. The boys stand at 3-1 following a 55-49 win at ZCHS.

SHS is expected to play on its new court in front of the home crowd for the first time Monday, Dec. 6 against Georgiana.
