Knicks’ Alec Burks returning with RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin out versus Warriors

The Knicks will remain shorthanded on Tuesday when they welcome Steph Curry and the Warriors to the Garden. But they will get one important player back who missed Sunday’s loss to the Bucks.

While RJ Barrett and Obi Toppin have been ruled out as they remain in the league’s COVID-19 health and safety protocol, Alec Burks was not listed on the injury report after missing Sunday’s game due to the birth of his child.

His return will likely shift Derrick Rose back to the second unit, unless coach Tom Thibodeau opts to keep Rose in the starting lineup and bring rookie Quentin Grimes off the bench.

In his first NBA start, Grimes scored a career-best 27 points in 40 minutes, including a team rookie record seven 3-pointers (on 13 attempts).

“Just ready for his opportunity,” Julius Randle said of the first-round pick (25th overall). “He works extremely hard in practice. I come in there at night, he’s in there, too. So that’s really just what it is, preparation and getting the opportunity. He took advantage of it and I’m sure he’ll have more in the future. I’m excited for him.”

The Knicks will be looking to snap a four-game home losing streak. Three of those defeats have come by double digits. … The Warriors rested wing Andre Iguodola for their game Monday against the Pacers after he returned from a right knee injury in their loss Saturday to the 76ers. He is expected to be available against the Knicks.
